Kabarole — The Mufti, Sheikh Ramathan Mubajje, has set up a committee to investigate corruption allegations against the Tooro Khadi Habibu Monday.
Mr Monday, who is the cleric in charge of Kabarole, Kamwenge, Bundibugyo and Kyenjojo, is accused of incompetence, mismanagement of Islamic assets, tribalism, corruption and embezzlement of funds.
The investigation committee, to be headed by Kabarole RDC Kambarage Kakonge is supposed to present its report within one month.
"The poor administration has totally affected the Islamic community of Kabarole District," reads a memorandum presented during a meeting in Kabarole Town on Wednesday. The meeting was chaired by Sheikh Mubajje.
Mr Monday, however, denied the allegations.
"All these are baseless allegations aimed at tarnishing my image. I vow to take on my critics lawfully. What we want is unity among Muslims" Mr Monday said.
Speaking to the press after the meeting, Sheikh Mubajje said: "The meeting was very fruitful and I call upon Muslims to remain united."
He warned Muslims in Tooro against associating with the faction led by Sheikh Zubairi Kayongo, adding that it is unconstitutional according to the Islamic law.
A disgruntled group that was not satisfied with the decision taken by the meeting walked out in protest and vowed to join Sheikh Kayongo's faction.
