SUNGURA music star, Tongai Moyo, is set to record his next album at the Dan Tshanda-owned Splash Music in South Africa next month.
Moyo was in the neighbouring country recently for a two-week tour when he met the popular producer and arranged to have his 2010 album recorded across the Limpopo River.
The Kwekwe-based musician last week said he was in talks with his local stable, Gramma Records, for a green light to process the deal.
The musician said he was ready to go into the studio anytime but would only release his album next year after making necessary alterations and perfections to have a quality product.
This year his efforts would be directed towards a video album to his latest release Muridzi Wenyaya.
The upcoming album would be Moyo's first to be recorded outside the country and the musician was upbeat about the latest development.
"I have no problems with Gramma Records," he said. "We have a good working relationship and some officials at the stable have already shown interest in the deal.
"I am optimistic the arrangement will be an important ground-breaking stage for our regional and international campaign."
Prominent names under Splash Music include Patricia Majalisa, Matshikos, Dalom Kidz, Peacock, Bongile and Splash.
Moyo says he was lured into the stable by Tshanda's equipment, which he found compatible with sungura.
The musician, however, insisted that his producer from Gramma Records would be part of the recording process in SA.
"I was impressed with the monologue equipment that Tshanda has in his studio. It is the best technology with which to arrange sungura music.
"Gramma used to have that equipment in the past and most of the golden oldies were recorded using that system.
"I have used the equipment before. It produces perfect sungura products. But I will go with a producer from Gramma Records who is familiar with our music," said the musician.
Gramma Records has since moved from monologue to a computerised recording system.
Efforts to get official comment from Gramma Records were unsuccessful as its spokesperson Helen Venganayi was said to be in Malawi on business.
But officials at the stable said Moyo had already tabled his proposal which, they said, was likely to be accepted.
The deal would see Splash Music marketing Moyo's music internationally while it is also expected to bear a partnership for live shows.
Tshanda will partner the sungura musician during his SA tours and the combination would also stage joint shows in Zimbabwe with the first one pencilled for Harare in September.
The musicians are also planning to visit other parts of the region with specific interests in Botswana and Mozambique.
Moyo has successfully toured the countries before and he is expected to be in Botswana for three shows before returning to SA next month.
He said a duet involving the duo's golden oldies was also in the pipeline.
