Katsina — The Vice Chancellor of Katsina University, Dr. Umar Labdo has decried the delay by Nigerian universities in the award of masters and doctorate degrees to deserving students.
Dr. Labdo who spoke to Daily Trust yesterday blamed lecturers, especially those in the first generation universities for the practice. He said the award of such higher degrees are usually delayed the award for up to seven or ten years after the conclusion of a programme that is supposed to run for two to three years.
He charged government and university authorities to introduce a report and monitoring mechanism to measure progress instead of leaving the students at the mercy of lecturers who often had little or no time to supervise them.
Dr. Labdo pointed out that, unless there was conscious effort to accelerate the production of masters and Phd holders in the country, the newly introduced states and private universities would not have qualified lecturers.

With very limited experienced lecturers, are the BSc. holders up to international stadards in their knowledge or are we cooking graduates just for Nigeria?
