Tunis — The Tunisian weightlifter Khalil Maaioua has given Tunisia 2 gold medals at the 2009 Pescara Mediterranean games held in the Italian city from June 26 through July 5, 2009.
Khalil Maaouia came first in the 56 kg category in the snatch event, lifting 121 kg at the Pescara Sports Stadium during the first day of the competition.
He later won his second gold medal by lifting 145 kg in the clean and jerk event.
Thanks to Maaouia's two gold medals, Tunisia tops the Pescara games' medal standings. It is followed by Turkey, Italy and Syria.
130 Tunisian athletes are competing in the event.
