Harare — PEOPLE of Mozambican descent residing in Zimbabwe have been called up to have their documents in order so that they go and vote when Mozambique conducts presidential elections in October this year.
The president of the Mozambican Society in Zimbabwe, Esmeralda Massinga made the call yesterday in an interview after her society held celebrations on Saturday at the Mozambican Embassy in Harare to mark Mozambique's 34th independence anniversary.
"There are many Mozambicans who were born here and lots of them don't have documents.
"They are all Mozambicans and with the assistance of the Mozambican Embassy, are acquiring the necessary documents," she said.
Massinga said they formed the association after realising that there were so many people of Mozambican descent living in Zimbabwe and some of them had no proper documents.
"The reason is that there are so many Mozambicans living here in Zimbabwe sometimes it can be very difficult for the embassy to accommodate us of all.
"Although our National Day was there on Thursday, we decided to celebrate it through our effort and we asked the embassy to assist us," she said. Also present during the celebrations were Dr Vicente Veloso, the Mozambican Ambassador to Zimbabwe and several other officials from the French, Portuguese, Angolan and DRC embassies.
