Harare — Zimbabwe and Mozambique should strengthen economic partnerships if they are to realise their full potential and develop their people, Mozambican Ambassador to Zimbabwe Mr Vicente Veloso has said.
In an interview at commemorations to mark Mozambique's 34th anniversary of independence on Thursday, Ambassador Veloso said the relations between Zimbabwe and his country were cordial, but should help increase economic integration in the region.
"Zimbabwe and Mozambique have always had cordial relations, but we should now increase co-operation in economic affairs to fully develop our peoples' potential. As neighbours, we have been co-operating in a number of spheres that include health, military matters and transport, but I feel these need to be enhanced so that the two countries can reap the benefits of their strategic positioning.
"Mozambique has a railway infrastructure and harbours that can be used for the development of the two countries. Our governments have put all conditions in place and we now want the business community to use the infrastructure," Ambassador Veloso said.
He said the current difficulties that Zimbabwe was facing would be overcame soon given the spirit of working together that was prevailing in the country.
"The help that Mozambique is giving to Zimbabwe in the area of health underlines the warm and cordial relations and the spirit of brotherhood existing between the two neighbours," he said.
Acting Secretary for Foreign Affairs Mr Godfrey Magwenzi said Government valued the strong ties between Zimbabwe and Mozambique.
