Arusha — Preparations for the forthcoming annual Agriculture Show, Nane-nane to be held in Arusha August are complete. The fair arrangements are ready for about 65 percent, according to the organizers.
With about five weeks to go, the Tanzania Agricultural Society in the Northern Zone says this year's Nane-Nane event will be better organized than previous ones. The ten-day fair is as usual expected to climax on the eighth of August which is also the National Peasants' Day and public holiday.
Peter Ngassa the zonal Secretary for TASO however stated that entrance fees to this year's shows have been doubled. Adults will each pay Tsh. 1000 at the gates while children and students are expected to part with Tsh. 500 per head. Previously grown-ups paid Tsh. 500 gate fees and Children were charged Tsh. 300.
Global recession or not, this year, the agriculture show certainly won't come cheap. Ngassa did not explain whether the participants will also be charged more for pavilion spaces. The 2009 installment of Agriculture show runs under the theme 'Green revolution in Tanzania,'
"So far more than 80 exhibitors have confirmed their participation, we also have over 50 outside institutions and companies that will be coming to Arusha to take part in the event," revealed Mr. Ngassa adding that global financial crisis had taken a huge toll on the local agricultural sector as much as did Tourism and Mining activities in the Northern Zone.
But will the show be improved this time? Ngassa reckons so. He said the parking area has been enlarged and properly maintained to cater for many more vehicles and reduce congestion at the same time.
During the climax ceremony, we are going to launch a special seed factory here in Arusha as well as inaugurating the Partners for Development Program in Tanzania, a project that deals with empowering small-scale farmers and entrepreneurs through tailor made training.
