Arusha began well their campaign to retain national athletics title after posting victories in the middle distance races and field events held yesterday at the National Main Stadium, Dar es Salaam.
Mary Naali claimed gold for Arusha in the 1500m after clocking 4 minutes, 31 seconds and 56 points.
The 16 year old girl edged off stiff challenge from Manyara runners mainly the runner up Zaitun Jumanne. Manyara-based lady finished second after positiong 4 minutes, 34 seconds and 87 points. Fatema Mohamed who clocked 4:34:96 claimed the bronze medal.
Arusha claimed the second gold in javelin through Saidi Thomas. The former Tegeta High School athlete covered 55:40 metrers followed by Charles Ibrahim and Ali Seif both representing Zanzibar Urban West.
Ibrahim covered 50:50 metre while Seif managed to throw at 49:62m,The TICTS sponsored event saw the host Dar es Salaam claiming their only gold in 5000m race.
Dickson Marwa won the gold medal for the host followed by Marco Joseph, Martin Sulle and Fabian Joseph.
More than 20 regions are taking part in this year's championship slated to climax today at the same venue.
Dar es Salaam based company TICTS sponsored the two-day event.
