A new local group, a two-girl band called Dance Hall Queens on Friday unveiled their dance hall flavour and warmed the night at Satchmos with some hot hip- banging dances.

The group, compromising Nakita, Nunu Mohlomi and Lesego Motoane, hope to have their debut album out in a few weeks' time. They feature two reggae rappers, Ekzylaka Degge Degge, real name Petrus Ntenna, and Fishman (Rotlhe Tshwaane).

The girls demonstrated their commitment to reggae roots with their rasta hair styles, yellow tops, as well as jeans decorated with the traditional red, yellow, and green reggae colours.

Their music is a mixture of popular dance hall beats and hardcore reggae chants. One of the girls, Lesego, was a dancer for local rapper Kast, and was known at some point as 'Banduka", after Kast's hit track she was popular for on stage.

Vebrok, Veronica Brooks, says she supported the girls' album launch. "I help them with advice and shows. I have a music album, too, but I advise them they should not enter the music industry hoping to strike it rich because it can frustrate. They should approach it with the love for music and not to make profit. I earn a living through other avenues, but I also work hard as a musician," explains the musician.

The Dance Hall Queens' album was recorded at Mexylend studios.

The album launch was graced by local musicians like Kast, Star Luu, music promoter PP', as well as RB1's Brooks Monnaanoka who applauded local music studios for their remarkable efforts in taking indigenous music to another level. " The ladies are a new hope for Botswana, especially in Dance Hall music, which has been lagging behind. I like it when women step forward. I hope to hear more new sounds from local women, other than the likes of Maxy".
