Luanda — The bishop of Caxito Diocese, Dom AntÃ'nio Jaca, on Sunday called on Catholic christians to follow the example of their saint patrons.
The prelate made this appeal during a homily in the ambit of the closing ceremony of the Popular Feasts of Cacuaco District, in Luanda, whose patron is Saint John the Baptist.
"Every christian that has a saint patron must follow his/her example of life (...), avoiding witchcraft and other practices contrary to the doctrine of the church", he stressed.
According to Dom AntÃ'nio Jaca, the closing of the Popular Feasts of Cacuaco coincides with the end of the Pauline Year and the start of priestly vocations.
He also explained that the date of birth of John the Baptist is celebrated because he is the first follower of Jesus Christ, the one who announced Christ's coming and baptised him by River Jordan.
On the other hand, the bishop called on society to fight against actions like paternity denial, child abuse and labour, which have increased in the urban zones.
The Popular Feasts of Cacuaco started last Wednesday and its programme were included several activities like music/cultural shows, farming fair, and sports competitions, among others.
