Uganda: KCC Begin Life Without Striker Umony As Kagame Cup Action Gets Underway

Khartoum — KCC FC coach George 'Best' Nsimbe reckons Brian Umony's transfer to SuperSport will motivate his former teammates to work harder in the Kagame Club Championship, which starts today.

Nsimbe's charges, who won this regional title in 1978, step onto the pitch tomorrow with a date against highly-rated DR Congo's guest side Tout Pussat (TP) Mazembe.

KCC, however, go into the 8pm clash, hoping to cope without their former inspirational forward Umony, who sealed a Shs104m deal with SuperSport United on Sunday. "We are very happy that Umony has signed for SuperSport. It's good for his career and it also motivates other players, " said Nsimbe, admitting that they would miss the goal grabber during the two-week showpiece.

"Umony's departure is good for Tommy Okello to also show what he can bring to the attacking front alongside Robert Ssentongo."

KCC are also without first choice goalkeeper Benjamin Ochan, who is in South Africa under-going trials with Blomfontein Celtic but Nsimbe has belief in the 18 players that made the trip.

Former SC Villa and Police tactician Sam Timbe will this evening lead Rwandan league champions Atraco against hosts El Merreikh in the opener expected to attract over 30,000 spectators.
