Kampala — It turns out that when the victorious Cranes players were hosted by President Yoweri Museveni on May 4, only 12 of the 18 who won the CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup registered to get a reward.
Tournament top scorer Brian Umony and defender Ismail Kazibwe attended the dinner but missed out on the president's offer, that was made at the end of the function as players were departing.
Team captain Andy Mwesigwa, Vincent Kayizi, Geoffrey Massa and Ceasar Okhuti who were not able to attend the dinner, also miss out.
Museveni's pledge turned out to be sh6.3m per player and was distributed last Friday by the principal private secretary to the president Amelia Kyambadde.
"I did not know anything. I wonder how I was left out," Kazibwe complained. Cranes' assistant captain Simeon Masaba led a group of eight that received the cash. "We are overwhelmed. We did not expect this much."
He was joined by Abel Dhaira, Edward Ssali, Hamuza Muwonge, Derrick Walulya, Owen Kasule, Habib Kavuma and Robert Kimuli.
Stephen Bengo, Patrick Ochan, Joseph Owino and Mudde Musa were on the list but were unable to pick the money on Friday.
