Abuja — Governor of Edo State, Adams Oshiomhole, has hinted that for Julius Berger to commence work in the state, proper study of the flood and erosion problem must be carried out so as to know how to permanently tackle the menace.
He disclosed this while receiving the Benin monarch, Omo N'Oba N'Edo Uku Akpolokpolo, Oba Erediauwa, who paid him a courtesy visit at the Government House, saying that his administration was poised and determined to fix Benin City, but in re-fixing it, it is expedient to do proper planning so that all the projects executed would stand the test of time and sustainable.
He explained that for Benin City to reclaim its original master plan, the city had to be redesigned so as to take care of the areas already infringed on by the activities of some illegal land developers.
According to him, "we are determined to fix Benin City, but in re-fixing it, it is expedient to do proper planning so that the project we do today will not be washed away tomorrow by erosion." Reassuring the people that his administration has no option than to deliver the dividends of democracy, Oshiomhole said a lot of progress will be made in the next couple of months, especially when construction and rehabilitation of roads commence in September this year.
In his speech, Oba Erediauwa said he was at the Government House to congratulate Oshiomhole for winning his case at the election tribunal, even as he (Erediauwa) used the occasion to welcome the governor to the Government House, Benin City.
