Birnin Kebbi — Federal Government is determined to eradicate malnutrition of children under five years of age in the country in the next few years, just as 541 children are receiving free treatment of severe acute malnutrition in Kebbi State .
Executive Director of the National Primary Healthcare Development Agency, Dr. Muhammed Ali Pate, who disclosed this in an interview when he visited one of the centres at Shafarina in Augie Local Government Area, said the Federal Government had established primary health centres all over the country where such children would be treated free of charge.
According to him, drugs and malnutrition foods had already been provided at the centres. "The Federal Government is taking steps to reduce cases of malnutrition in the country to the barest minimum in the next few years. We expect all tiers of government to be involved in malnutrition of children, "he said.
He specifically stressed the need for traditional rulers and other stakeholders to join hands to ensure the sustainability of the programme in the State.
Pate commended the Augie Local Governmnet for supporting the agency by taking care of the 541 children who were receiving treatment for severe acute malnutrition in five centres, namely Augie North, Bayawa, Yola, Shafarina and Birnin Tudu.
