Some Newspaper publishers in Cameroon paid a courtesy visit to the Minister of Communication last Wednesday.
The Minister of Communication, Jean Pierre Biyiti bi Essam last Wednesday June 25, 2009, received in audience a delegation of the Association of Newspaper Publishers in Cameroon (NEPAC). The delegation was led by the association's President, Zachee Nzoh Ngandembou. The purpose of the visit was to present to the Minister the newly created association. Speaking during the audience, the President of NEPAC presented the objectives and priority actions of the association.
These include among others, the creation of a self-regulatory body to instil a sense of responsible journalism and pave the way for improved ethical standards, partner with government in the latter's efforts to formulate and implement social communication policies as well as increase advertising revenue through dialogue with government for an advertising policy.
In a press release issued by NEPAC's president after the audience, Jean-Pierre Biyiti bi Essam said NEPAC's objectives and priority actions fall in line with his vision to transform the Cameroon media landscape. The publisher further said that Jean-Pierre Biyiti bi Essam, accepted the association's invitation as guest of honour to the official launching ceremony of NEPAC and promised his wholehearted support for the initiative. NEPAC was created in Yaounde last March to bring together newspaper publishers to seek solutions to their common problems, improve professional standards and foster a thriving and viable newspaper industry in the country among others.
