Uganda: Government Tipped on Biosafety

29 June 2009

Kampala — Government should consider the Enactment of a National Biosafety policy to regulate biotechnology use in the country. Scientists lack a developed system for the regulation of genetic modification.

Some of the biotechnology research findings have not benefited the public due to lack of laws to regulate them. This was revealed by the regional coordinator of the program for Biosafety Systems Dr Theresa Sengoba.

She says there is need to develop capacity along the line from product development to commercialization.
