Job Title: Executive Vice President Operational Risk and ICT

The EVP Operational Risk and ICT (EVP OR/ICT) is an executive management position responsible for leadership and pro-active assistance with the strategic and tactical direction of the Bank. The EVP OR/ICT is the CRO (Chief Risk Officer) of the Bank. The position ensures data security, seamless and reliable information and communication system, and cost effective and efficient services across all business units and the branch network.


The EVP OR/ICT ensures robust controls and continuous improvements in the overall management of risk in the Bank through the effective creation, proactive reviews and supervision of all systems, procedures, processes and controls within the Bank.  The EVP OR/ICT provides effective and articulate communication and vital operations and risk management information together with leadership, direction and credibility with the Executive Management team and the Board of Directors. The position reports directly to the CEO and has regular interactions with the Board of Directors.

Key Responsibilities:

  • To pro-actively contribute, as a member of the Executive Management team, to the formulation of the Banks overall strategic objectives and plans in consultation with the Board of Directors.
  • To ensure strategic objectives shaped at the Board level are translated into tactical delivery mechanisms with key measurements in place to monitor progress
  • To ensure robust controls and continuous improvements in the overall management of risk in the Bank through the effective creation, proactive reviews and supervision of all systems, procedures, processes and controls within the Bank.
  • To ensure that operations are carried out in compliance international best practices for operations and risk management and within governing country regulations and banking laws and regulations
  • To identify, research, develop and implement new avenues of service delivery and new products that meet or exceed the competitions banking initiatives.
  • To initiate, plan, develop and implement bank wide automation and cost reduction projects, quality and risk management programmes and various compliance and legal related activities.
  • Champion bank wide re-engineering projects as defined by the Executive Management team and the Board of Directors and support new products and services, review and develop new procedures and streamline of processing to achieve bank wide business objectives and to improve long term operations efficiency improvement.

Key Duties:

  • To identify, measure and evaluate the various operations risk indicators for all business units and the branch network; and to communicate the same to the Executive  Management team and the Board of Directors
  • To formulate, review and implement various operations policies, guidelines and controls (including mobile and internet banking policies, compliance related frameworks, contingency planning, data security, disaster recovery etc)
  • To instill a culture of quality and cost effectiveness across the operational units and ensure client satisfaction levels are met through defining service level standards where appropriate
  • To manage the delivery of a reliable, seamless, consistent and efficient ICT services across the enterprise.
  • Evaluate new systems along with the ICT Department and be responsible for the implementation of the same.
  • To manage information security, business continuity planning and implementation of key controls.
  • To ensure the optimal application of technology to effectively and efficiently operate the bank's business and deliver competitive and superior value and service to customers

Key Performance Indicators:

  • Successful implementation of banks strategic objectives
  • Maintenance of operational risk indicators within agreed parameters
  • Reduction in costs and improvements in efficiency through improved processes and minimization of operational losses.
  • Operations Risk compliance with international best practices and regulatory framework
  • Successful implementation of new products and platforms
  • Execution of Performance

Education & Experience:

  • University degree, preferably with MBA or equivalent in relevant discipline
  • 10 years related experience gained in banking and reputable financial institutions
  •  3 years proven supervisory experience and demonstrated leadership ability.
  • At least five (5) years at a senior managerial level in a financial or similar institution.
  • Experience in regulatory compliance
  • Strong ICT background and experience, in particular information and technical security architecture and familiarity with multiple platform operating systems including Windows and LINUX
  • Strong understanding and experience in banking operations, with ability to create formalized, comprehensive operational risk strategies and processes to maximize profitability and increase competitive advantage
  • Strong risk management background and experience, in particular information security risk process, technologies, methodologies, risk management models, policy and procedures and development requirements

Skills:

  • Strong independent thinking
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgment and act independently in a multi-tasked environment.
  • Good oral and written communication and interpersonal skills with strong leadership
  • Good knowledge and experience in bank management, administration, operation, re-engineering and compliance
