Gaborone United (GU) underlined their championship credentials with a workmanlike victory over bogey side, BDF XI on Saturday.
Before the game, few gave the league leaders a chance against BDF XI, which has beaten them twice this season. But the Reds won the duel 2-1 to stay three points clear of second placed defending champions Mochudi Centre Chiefs with four games before the curtain comes down on the be MOBILE Premier League. BDF XI beat GU 2-1 in the first round of the league before eliminating Mike Sithole's charges from the Coca-Cola Cup.
The Reds have been grinding important victories in recent weeks despite lacklustre displays. Chiefs kept within striking distance of the leaders with a 4-2 thrashing of Uniao Flamengo Santos.
Both GU and Chiefs have a tough run-in and the clash between the two sides on the last day of the campaign might decide where the title goes. Chiefs enjoy a healthy goal tally, which may eventually prove crucial in the title race. In Selebi-Phikwe, Township Rollers' rollercoaster run continued as they fell 2-1 to Nico United. The loss might mount pressure on coach Rahman Gumbo, who was however, fielding a side missing six regulars. Nico's win improved their survival chances as the three other relegation candidates lost. ECCO City Greens returned to winning ways with a 6-3 drubbing of relegation -haunted Mogoditshane Fighters.
Captain Malepa Bolelang netted a hattrick while Robert Tamba weighed in with brace.
Mandla Sibanda completed the rout. Mandla Mgadla, Marco Kwamwimba and Sedat Senare scored for Fighters who remain rooted in the relegation zone.
Naughty Boys are destined for the First Division once again with high chances that debutants Great North Tigers (GNT) will accompany them. Both teams were promoted this season, though Naughty Boys have been to the top flight before. Notwane brightened their somehow dull season with a 4-1 thumping of GNT while TAFIC compounded Naughty Boys woes with a 2-1 win. Extension Gunners drew with struggling Boteti Young Fighters in Orapa.
Pressure is mounting on BMC coach, Godfrey Tamirepi after the Zimbabwean watched haplessly as his side slumped to a 2-1 defeat to Police XI on Sunday.
