Selebi-Phikwe — Botswana Congress Party (BCP) is confident of winning the general elections this year, a parliamentary candidate has said.
Nzwaligwa Nzwaligwa, who is interested in the Selebi-Phikwe East seat has told Mmegi that his party is not campaigning because it had already completed the task in 2005.
He said the ruling Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) does not have the interest of Selebi-Phikwe town at heart. He said everything has collapsed in the town and there are no economic activities that can create employment for the residents. He added that all projects planned for the town under National Development Plan 10 have been cancelled.
He attacked the incumbent MPs Nonofo Molefhi and Kavis Kario for wasting time impressing President Ian Khama and forgetting to fight for the developments of the town.
Nzwaligwa said BCP has experience in elections, which it will use to win the polls. He said the party's concern at the moment is to deal with challenges facing residents of the town.
"We are going to do things differently and we have a plan for that," he said. He added that Botshabelo looks like a temporary settlement and residents have been using pit-latrines for more than 30 years. Botshabelo Central council candidate, Molefe Molathegi said the BCP is strong and all its candidates will win the elections.
He said BCP has been growing since its formation and nothing can stop it. He asserted that no BDP candidate will win the polls. Molathegi said other parties have launched their candidates but the BCP is yet to parade its team because it wants to do it in a way that will show that it is ready to rule.
