The Botswana Volleyball Federation (BVF) president Tsoseletso Nkala has said action will be taken against the official responsible for the last minute cancellation of the organisation's Annual General Meeting (AGM).
The AGM was scheduled for Palapye on Saturday. It could not be held because some items were not included in the agenda. The executive committee failed to provide answers for the goof and this led to the cancellation of the meeting.
Nkala told Mmegi Sport that the BVF is consulting the Botswana National Sports Council (BNSC) to decide the way forward. The person who allegedly neglected his duties and caused the goof is said to be a BNSC employee.
Nkala said it was embarrassing to travel all the way to Palapye and return without holding the meeting. "I would not be in a position to say what action will be taken as we are still in talks with the BNSC. But I can assure you that action will be taken," she promised. She said they incurred a lot of expenses travelling to Palapye and paying accommodation and meals for affiliates.
Though some stakeholders fault the federation for not checking the agenda before the aborted meeting, Nkala said they trusted the (BNSC) officer would do his job. She stated that her committee had earlier in the week briefed the officer on how to draw the agenda. She said affiliates were right to blame the BVF though it was not the federation which was at fault. As per the BVF constitution, another AGM must be called in two weeks' time. In the meantime, the current committee will run the affairs of the federation. Nkala was not seeking re-election at the aborted AGM.
