Botswana: Green Boot Race Intensifies

The race for top goal-scorer seems headed to the wire again this season with Nico United marksman, Master Masitara and Moemedi 'Jomo' Moatlhaping of Mochudi Centre Chiefs' as the main contenders for the Green Boot Award.

Masitara has set the pace with 26 goals, three better than Moatlhaping with four games to go. The winner of the be MOBILE Green Boot is guaranteed P25,000.

It looks like Masitara and Moatlhaping will fight for the prestigious award to the bitter end.

Both strikers have been sharp and most importantly scored crucial goals for their clubs.

Masitara grabbed a brace against Township Rollers over the weekend while Moatlhaping also got a double as Chiefs won 4-2 against Uniao Flamengo Santos.

With four games still to play before the season ends, it remains to be seen whether Masitara will hold on to his lead or Moatlhaping will eventually surpass him.

If reports that Masitara might leave the country for trials abroad before the season ends are true, Moatlhaping will get the opportunity to overhaul him and grab the Green Boot Award.

Chiefs face BDF XI in a midweek clash while Nico would be inactive.

This weekend, Nico might travel to face Police XI without their leading marksman, while Chiefs will not have a match. Masitara is chasing back-to-back titles as the country's leading goal-scorer following last season's exploits.

He finished joint top goal-scorer with Jerome Ramatlhakwane who was at Chiefs before moving to Santos in South Africa.

Both Ramatlhwakwane and Masitara scored 18 goals each. This season it looks increasingly likely that the winner might surpass the 30-goal mark.
