As prelude to the recent World Music Day, artists staged an impressive performance at the Buea Cameroon Cultural Centre.
Business operators in the South West Region have been called to support artists and musicians because they serve society by bringing joy where there is sadness and life where there is death. The call was made, June20, 2009 at the Buea Cameroon Cultural Centre by the South West Regional Delegate of Culture, Jean-Jacob Nyobe, while addressing dignitaries and artists who turned up to celebrate this year’s World Music Day. Nyobe explained that the 29th edition of the World Music Day, like other editions, marked the role of music in the development of a nation as Cameroon.
In the presence of Edwin Nkenya Ngwana, Cultural Adviser who sat in for the Governor, the Regional Delegate of Culture urged the artists to work harder arguing that even if their talents and inspiration were irrefutable, only tireless work could keep them high up. The Delegate complimented the Culture Minister, Ama Tutu Muna, for the new lease she has brought to enliven Cameroon’s cultural promotion. Songs and dances invoking peace, national integration and progress were staged. The musicians began by striking on the sad note in spiritual solidarity with their colleague, Charlotte Mbango, who passed away recently.
Regional names like Goddy Blaise, El Chick Echendong, King Phils, Tchaya Stoppeur and the like were scheduled to stage. An exhibition of locally made traditional musical instruments kept the fans and officials very much alive.
