Abuja — The FCT Administration(FCTA)will by the end of this year commission 527 housing units being the first phase of houses in the Abuja @ 30 Village built for the less-privileged especially widows, physically challenged and persons living with HIV/AIDs.
The FCT Minister, Senator Muhammad Adamu Aliero made this disclosure on Tuesday while inspecting the housing project in Kpeyegi in Kuje Area Council of FCT.
The Minister insisted that the houses must be commissioned on or before the end of this year to give the less-privileged people a sense of belonging because Abuja belongs to all strata of the society.
Senator Aliero revealed that all the houses would be subsidised to the tune of about 30 to 40 per cent to enable the real masses get access to them.
The Minister directed the Executive Secretary of the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA), Engineer Muhammad Sani Alhassan to provide basic infrastructure including the Primary and Secondary roads to the estate.
He instructed the FCDA to fast track the provision of roads to and within the housing project since there is enough money on ground for that purpose.
His words: "Since the housing project had already been connected to the national grid and motorised boreholes provided, efforts should be geared towards reticulation of pipe borne water within the entire project site immediately."
"Accordingly, public facilities like Nursery/Primary Schools, Clinic, Market and Police Station be constructed with immediate effect to bring live to the area," the Minister emphasised.
Senator Aliero recalled that the Abuja @ 30 Village was conceived by the FCT Administration to resettle the low income earners displaced when several Abuja slums like Karmo and Idu were demolished thereby giving succour to the Widows, physically challenged and other persons living with HIV/AIDS.
He assured that the FCT Administration would continue to build on this modest achievement until the less-privileged and down trodden are given a befitting position in the development of Abuja.
The Minister paid tribute to the members of the Organised Private Sector, Non-Governmental Organizations and spirited individuals who have immensely contributed to the realization of the dream of the Abuja @ 30 Village houses.
