Against the backdrop in recent interest shown by three of the venues that were earlier dropped from the bid to host matches of the Nigeria 2009 FIFA World Cup, Minister of Sports, Engineer Sani Ndanusa yesterday said all the nine venues bidding for the six slots are still in the race.

A team of inspectors from the world soccer governing body, FIFA during their second visit in the country disqualified Kaduna and Bauchi, and placed Warri on the waiting list, but all the three recently came out to announce they are ready to host the world.

Answering questions from reporters after the inauguration of fifteen sub-committees for the Nigeria 2009 FIFA World Cup in Abuja yesterday, Ndanusa said all the nine venues are in the race and only FIFA would pick the best during their last inspection visit this later month.

Ndanusa, who did not elaborate whether Nigeria would compel FIFA to revisit those centres earlier rejected before passing their final verdict, said he was sure FIFA would find all the nine stadia qualified to host matches of the World Cup.

"Everybody is in the race and I am sure when FIFA comes in they will find all the stadia good enough to host the World Cup matches", Ndanusa stated.
