Kampala — Bugolobi flats sittings tenants have petitioned the President calling for his intervention to end the exploitation they are being subjected to by the National Housing and construction cooperation.
They demand that the president prevails over the corporation and grants them an opportunity to attain housing units at a cheaper cost.
The cost of flats in Bugoloobi was doubled within less than a year after the initial offer of 47 million shillings. This is unfair to majority of the tenants, whose income is far below the projected price, Kabarole woman MP Margaret Muhanga says.
Muhanga is one of the affected tenants.
She accuses National housing of conniving with the Valuer and banking institutions to persuade them to acquire loans. These loans would enable them acquire the houses on a mortgage basis. They would be serviced at an interest rate of 16% over a period of 15 years.
