Angola: Commander Urges Staff to Redouble Efforts to Combat Crime

Luanda — The commander of the Unit for Protection of Protocol Individuality of the Angolan National Police (UPIP/PN), sub-commissioner Victor Inaculo, appealed on Tuesday in Luanda to his staff to work hard in order to fight against crime in the country.

The sub-commissioner said so during the commemoration of the 16th anniversary of the institution, which was commemorated under the motto: "UPIP/PN 16 years for the retrieval of ethical and moral values among the staff, let's strengthen the protective measures for personal security of protocol personalities".

According to him, the rigorous and systematic monitoring of staff is meant to know the quantity, quality and location of available staff, so as to rationalise the proper employment of forces and means available in this speciality.

During the period of the existence of this speciality, it was observed that the number of goals and protected posts in the systems of a dynamic and static guard, require an increase of staff and technical resources, as well as the adoption of a legal instrument to give force, to facilitate the performance on achieving specific missions.

According to Victor Inaculo, the corporation has reached acceptable levels taking into account the achieved figures which are around 15 percent, corresponding to 785 staff trained in different courses such as refreshment and upgrading seminars.

UPIP/ NP was founded on 30 June 1993 and works as a tool that monitors the accomplishment of the laws for personal protection and security of the officials in positions of sovereignty and their institutions as well as participation in the maintenance of public order and tranquillity.

During the ceremony, it was promoted more than 20 aspirants for the degree of sub-inspectors.

The event was marked by parade of the forces, delivery of praises to the most prominent police officers, the trophy to the winner of a five-a-side football tournament, demonstration of techniques for personal security and cultural events.
