There was a mass boycott of senators Tuesday for discussions on the Threshold Bill and other issues, with only 5 of the 24 senators attending.
Those present vowed a boycott next since their colleagues refused to attend session without, they added, valid reasons.
The Threshold Bill, designed to demarcate electoral constituencies for the scheduled 2011 elections, has been an issue with the senate since the House endorsed it and sent for concurrence as demanded by law.
Sources told this paper that there are fears amongst legislators of not being returned in the next elections, and that the strategy could stall the prospects of elections as means of hanging on to their jobs.
The opposition congress for Democratic Change, with the largest number of seats in the Legislature, has warned that it would demand power sharing one minute after the expiration of this government's mandate.
Several foreign diplomats, including the US ambassador, have urged the Legislature to see reason in passing the bill, but the intransigence continues, with the Senate warning the American to mind their business.
