Harare — THE Church has a role to play in national healing and can bring people together.

This was illustrated in song and dance at an event dubbed "Celebrating 30 Years of Methodism in Zimbabwe", at the Glamis Arena in the Harare Exhibition Park recently.

Hosted by the Glen View Methodist Society, the celebrations proved that national healing was not only at a political level, but also featured a role for the Church in promoting reconciliation.

People from all sectors of society put aside their different backgrounds and sang and danced for a worthy cause.

The performers included Nicholas "Madzibaba" Zakaria, Freddy "Kapfupi" Manjalima and Domboramwari Revival.

Fanuel Mupande, the chairman of the development and relief department of Glen View Methodist Society, said the aim was to raise funds for the reconstruction of the church and to buy furniture.

"We need to expand the church, and to repair some of the church facilities that have broken down. "We thank God for our growth in previous years, although it was at a slow pace," he said.

Mrs Skondile Kumire, the circuit steward of the church, said although times were hard, people had sacrificed their time and money to support the event. "Our target was to raise US$10 000. We hope to hold more events of this nature to achieve a lot for the Lord, " she said.
