Zimbabwe:SA Firm Invests U.S.$1,5 Million in Plaster Products

2 July 2009

Harare — A SOUTH African company, Gyproc, has invested US$1,5 million in plant value for the manufacture of wall finishing plasters and ceiling boards in Zimbabwe.

The company produces Rhinoset, Rhino bond and Rhino Covemould. Gyproc Zimbabwe also enjoys a market share in Malawi and Zambia.

Speaking during a media tour of the plant yesterday, general manager Mr Bruce Kaseke said the company is presently operating at 40 percent production capacity.

He said: "We are just at preliminary stages, we are expecting to increase production capacity to at least 60 percent depending on the response of the market."

The company is currently producing 2 200 tonnes per month of plaster products.

He said the future of the construction is positive following the formation of the inclusive Government.

"We want to make sure the quality of our products match with the South African products to make sure that customers will not have to import them," said Mr Kaseke.

"You know when you are building your house or commercial building, you would want a product that lasts forever. We do not want to short change the end user of the product by cutting corners in our manufacturing process," he added.

Rhinoset is the company's flagship product, the one which is the most sought after on the market. It is manufactured for use as a finishing coat over all kinds of undercoats.

It is a gypsum plaster made under scientifically-controlled conditions from high-grade gypsum.

"Application and can be decorated immediately when dry," he added.
