At the recent Financial Planning Institute Congress & Expo held in Johannesburg, Cape Town-based Marketing Merchants won Best Stand Award for its Momentum stand design, done in collaboration with FCBCT advertising agency, the company announced on 26 June 2009.
Momentum wanted a stand that would express its concerns about environmental issues and that would be as "green" as possible. Consequently, the Cape Town-based stand design and construction company designed a stand construction that was completely reusable. FCBCT was instrumental in contributing ideas such as the use of exterior solar panels that fed electricity to the stand, as well as making use of only energy-efficient light bulbs.
Bicycle power; low-ink font
Two stationary bicycles were placed on the stand for attendees to cycle during their breaks and for them to see how much energy is needed to work a single light bulb.
In addition, tree and tomato plant seedlings, potted in disposable eco-friendly containers, were displayed on the stand and handed out.
All signage and text panels were made up from a font especially created to use less ink in the printing process. This was done in order to illustrate the positive effects that could be had if implemented on a world-wide macro scale.
