Cameroon: New Government Gets Down To Work

Prime Minister Philemon Yang yesterday commissioned the new members of government shortly after taking over from Ephraim Inoni.

Cameroon's new Prime Minister Philemon Yang and the new members of government appointed Tuesday, June 30 will begin work today after taking office yesterday, July 01, 2009. The incoming Prime Minister arrived at the Star Building for the handing over ceremony at 12:45 p.m. yesterday. The outgoing Prime Minister, Ephraim Inoni welcomed him as he got out of the lift with hand shakes and warm words, "congratulations Mr Prime Minister".

After this, the outgoing Prime Minister Ephraim Inoni and the incoming one, Philemon Yang went into the office where handing over formalities took place behind closed doors.

The senior staff of the Prime Minister's Office headed by the Secretary General, Jules Doret Ndongo waited in the Cabinet Meeting hall. Then came the historic moment when Philemon Yang and his predecessor came in, signed and exchanged documents.

What remains historic about the handing over ceremony at the Star Building was the message of the outgoing Prime Minister to the staff of the Prime Minister's Office. Mr Inoni thanked them for the work they did to help him accomplish the mission entrusted to him by the Head of State. He admitted that in the course of work, there were certainly mistakes but stated that each of them put in much efforts to achieve the mission. He called on the staff to give the incoming Prime Minister the same collaboration and added "our work consists of enabling the Head of State achieve his plans for the country as he has the mandate of the people". Philemon Yang on his part, thanked and congratulated his predecessor and his team for the work done to accomplish the mission of moving the country ahead. He further expressed the wish to have the same collaboration.

After taking over functions, Prime Minister Yang commissioned all the new members of government into their functions. The Secretary of State at the Ministry of Secondary Education, Mounouna Foutsou will be commissioned into his functions by the Minister of Secondary Education. Philemon Yang used the occasion to congratulate all the new members of government for the confidence of the Head of State. He called on them to be devoted, loyal and adopt team spirit in the accomplishment of their missions.
