Kampala — THE Police on Tuesday arrested the Uganda Federal Alliance (UFA) activists for attempting to hold a rally in Owino and Park Yard markets in down town Kampala. Members of UFA, a civil organisation led by Rubaga MP Beti Kamya, were selling membership cards to the vendors when the Police nabbed them.

The group numbering about 50, wore white T-shirts printed with their logo and theme: 'There is nothing as powerful as an idea whose time has come.'

Police spokesperson Judith Nabakooba said Kamya's group was blocked from holding a rally because they had no clearance from the Inspector General of Police.

Kamya said she had written to the Police and the management of Owino and Park Yard markets informing them of UFA's intention. She said the Police silence meant the authorities had cleared the rally.
