Ilorin — The Kwara State Environmental Task Force last weekend apprehended 13 persons for violating various offences of the state monthly sanitation exercise
The offences ranged from non participation in the exercise and roaming round the streets while the exercise was still on were subsequently arraigned before a Mobile Court sitting along Unity Road for trial. The presiding judge, Mr Kamaldeen Lateef, while trying the offenders reiterated that government would not hesitate to exert its long stick against any erring persons who violate the state environmental law. The judge who found them guilty, later sentenced them to one and two months imprisonment respectively with options of fine of N500 and N I ,000, depending on the gravity of their offences.
As at the time of filing this. report, four of the accused persons were able to pay the fine options while the rest who could not afford it are cooling their feet at Oja Oba Police 'C' Division in Ilorin Meanwhile, residents within Ilorin metropolis have been warned against dumping refuse inside drainages, to avoid the wrath of the law.
