FOCUS will now shift to the lower divisions when the promotion playoffs to the MTC Namibia Premier League (NPL) are determined this weekend.
With the premiership title safely with African Stars and the NFA Cup with Orlando Pirates, the minnows in the lower league will now scramble for the two available places left by Chief Santos and Mighty Gunners, who were relegated from the elite league.
For the Southern Stream First Division (SSFD), it will be do or die for four teams who will meet in playoffs at the weekend, while the winner of the Northern Stream First Division (NSFD) will be determined later.
Football in the NSFD is still in the league phase and the champions of that league will be promoted automatically, as opposed to the winner in the SSFD who will be determined through playoffs.
The SSFD is divided into two streams (coastal and inland) which necessitates the playoffs, compared to the NSFD, which only has 12 teams of which the winner gains automatic entry to the premiership.
Yesterday, the chairman of the SSFD, Kenneth !Goaseb, confirmed that the playoffs will be determined in Windhoek.
He said Blue Waters from Walvis Bay, Invincible, Monitronic College (both from Windhoek) and Rehoboth-based Friends will bid for the only available spot in the premiership this weekend.
!Goaseb said the matches will be played on a round robin basis and the team that accumulates the highest number of points shall be promoted to the premiership.
He also revealed that the winners for this season will walk away with N$35 000, runners-up N$15 000, third place N$8 000, while the fourth-placed team has to settle for N$5 000.
