Abuja — It is not in doubt that improper latching of containers on trucks have resulted in wanton destruction of properties and death of hundreds of innocent lives, most especially in Lagosians. It is also not in dispute that there is presently no serious law to check the activities of these particular set of people, who because of the failure to properly latch the containers on their trucks caused the death of many bread winners and those who would have contributed positively to the development of the country.
Perhaps, many lives would have been saved from untimely death if there had been a law to regulate the activities of the truck operators.
We are thereby using this medium to call on the listening governor of Lagos state, Babatunde Fashola (SAN) to use his wealth of knowledge as a lawyer to forward a bill to the state House of Assembly to check the activities of those behind this dastardly act.
We also urge the Federal Government as well as the Nigerian Port Authority (NPA) to urgently beam their searchlight on the affairs of the truck operators, with a view to sanctioning those that failed to comply with best practices.
