Lamin Fatty

1 July 2009

Readers could recall that Mr. Kasim Fadera and five canteen owners were issued a vacation order on 13 June 2007, signed by CEO of Mansakonko Area Council and approved by the then Governor, Modou Soma Jobe. When Mr. Jobe was contacted, he confirmed the story but added that the new owner would build a super market on the said piece of land.

The six canteen owners however wrote a petition to the Secretary of State for Local Government and Religious Affairs, complaining of the eviction order

Fadera complained that after forcefully vacating them from the land area they have been occupying for 28 years, they have not been allocated an alternative place to do their business

The place is said to have been allocated to a businessman who is yet to put up any new structure. He then expressed his grievances and asked for redress.

This reporter visited the department of Local Government and Lands to have their reaction on this issue. Mr. Abdoulie Manneh, the Permanent Secretary however declined to comment but referred him to the Physical Planning Director.

The Director of Physical Planning Unit, Mr. Kalilou Giteh also declined and emphasized to this reporter that he is a civil servant and is not allowed to speak to the press. The Minister of Local government was said to be at a meeting.

Foroyaa will contact the Secretary of state/Minister to get his comment.
