Serrekunda East Sports Development held a one day congress on Sunday the 28th June 30, 2009 at Semega Janneh Hall.
Before the actual commencement of the congress, first of its kind, security personnel were stationed at the main gate unlike the West and Bakau congresses. Participants (more specially observers) were ordered out to stand at the security-tight main gate as happenings unfolded. Sports discipline representatives were called upon to register for voting respectively, while some journalist also standing out side were refused entrance.
Interestingly enough, when GRTS Baboucarr Senghore and crew came to the scene, they were allowed entrance to the dismay of some journalists for which I was also a part of.
Mustapha Kebbeh is elected as the new Serrekunda East Sports Development Organization Executive Committee chairman, after the deposition of thirteen-year regime of Joe kalangba.
His removal from the chairpersonship came on the wake of bitter complaints, lodged by community members on how he officiates and administers the organization. It is said that he (Jo) has been the chairman of the East Committee for three consecutive terms of 13 years without sufficient development achieved. The community criticized him on their way of misappropriation of collected funds by the committee.
Another complaint lodged by the community had been the way and manner, the S/K East team single handedly uses the pitch without Samger and Tallinding United (all in Serrekunda), allowed access.
Part of the programme included a question and answer session where issues of concern as well as issues related to sports were raised.
