Janjangbureh — The Community Driven Development Project (CDDP), last Wednesday June 24, 2009, disbursed D2.8 M to forty-four communities in the Central River Region south.
Speaking at the presentation ceremony in Janjangbureh, Alhagie Ganyie Touray, the governor of the Central River Region, called on the beneficiaries to put the funds into its intended purpose. He pointed out that the project was designed in tThe Gambia to empower communities, reduce poverty and hardship for the marginalised people.
The CDDP project coordinator , Lamin Jarhursey, reminded them that in November 2008, similar disbursement was conducted in twenty-four villages and the projects were well implemented. He urged them to assume responsibility for the implementation and sustainability of the project.
The CDDP project manager, Balla Musa Touray, advised the chairpersons to convene village meetings for the smooth implementation of the project. Yusupha Manneh, the chief executive officer of the Janjangbureh Area Council, said the project will not only go a long way in improving the lives of the marginalised people but will also complement the council's efforts.
Other speakers included the community development facilitator, Kajally Kanji and the chief of Upper Fulladu, Biran Baldeh, delivered the vote of thanks. Lamin Badjie, the Community Development officer CRR south, chaired the ceremony.
