Angola: Medical Emergency Institute to Secure Evacuation of Patients

2 July 2009

Luanda — Angola's National Medical Emergency Institute, whose creation was approved Wednesday by the government, will secure medical assistance and evacuation, in case of sudden illness and accident to appropriate health clinics.

The institute will also guarantee life saving operations at beaches and during rainy season, as well as giving special care to transport of injured people, newly born babies, disabled people, the dead and elderly people, according to a press note from the Cabinet Council's fifth meeting.

Other aim is to guarantee elaboration of emergency plans in case of catastrophe, in collaboration with the provincial health board, National Fire Service, Civil Protection and Angola Red Cross.

To assist the population, the institute made available the emergency phone number 116, where the callers will receive moral support, counselling, among others.
