THE 45th Zambia International Trade Fair (ZITF) under the theme 'Investment in Infrastructure for Competitiveness' officially opened its doors to the public yesterday with first time exhibitors hoping to make an impression on the show goers.
Among the first time foreign exhibitors were Indonesia and the Hwange Colliery Company Limited of Zimbabwe in the International Hall.
Hwange Colliery acting marketing manager Charles Zhou said in an interview that the company was exhibiting for the first time after the company made an observation of the fair last year and realised it was a good platform for publicity.
Mr Zhou said his company dealt in coal and coke and that they intended to use the show to get some orders.
"We want to educate our potential clients on our products and we are even prepared to go into different manufacturing companies to study their broilers so that we could provide precise advice," he said.
He said the trade fair was well organised and had so far met his expectations.
A local first time exhibitor National Construction Council (NCC) said they were compelled to exhibit because they wanted to get closer to their market on the Copperbelt and North-Western Province.
NCC northen regional inspector Chance Kaonga said there were many economic activities in the two provinces, it was therefore imperative for the council to be at the provinces' door step.
Mr Kaonga said the NCC represented the general public which they hoped to equally capture in the course of the trade fair for clarifications.
He said the duty of the NCC was to ensure the contractors, the consultants and the clients worked diligently and faithfully.
The country would not record serious development without diligent construction, Mr Kaonga said.
He commended the organisers of the trade fair for good preparations.
However, some exhibitors were still cleaning their stands and many people were milling outside the gates of the fair hoping to get jobs as stand attendants or those for last minute cleaning.
The fair goes on up to Tuesday next week and the official opening to be graced by Tanzanian Presiden t Jakaya Kikwete is to take place on Sunday.
