The tea producers in Tanzania are confident of accessing export markets despite the global financial crisis.
The targeted markets are South Africa, Kenya, Dubai, Uganda, and in Europe and America because of good quality of Tanzania tea.
Speaking to The Citizen at the ongoing exhibitions at the Dar es Salaam International Trade Fair in Dar es Salaam yesterday, the head of operations of Afri Tea and Coffee Blenders Limited, Mr Sarujit Sarma, said they would soon start exporting their products using different Tanzanian brands.
Mr Sarma said the good their products are well packed, which makes tea from Tanzania excel in the foreign markets.
"Foreign consumers know that good quality tea and well packed, always come from Kenya, but we are now producing the best tea," said Mr Sarma.
We are also trying to fight against Kenyan products in the regional market, adding that once consumers get used to it, they would not stop taking Tanzania's tea.
He pointed out that to penetrate external and local markets, his company produces four new brands of tea which helps people with health complications like high blood pressure or cancer.
He named the brands as Hibiscus, Camomile, Rooibos and Green Tea.
The world economic crisis has pushed down export prices of most agricultural produce like cotton, tea, sisal, cashew nuts and coffee due to shrinking markets.
In order to bail out producers, buyers, processors and other stakeholders in the value chain from the impact of the economic crisis, consumers will enjoy good quality at relatively low cost, said Mr Sarma.
African Pride tea from Afri Tea and Coffee Blenders, is currently exported Germany, Faroe Island, Japan, Russia, Belgium, Denmark, Kenya, Comoros, Zambia and Uganda.
