Two firms have come forward to sponsor swimmers who will represent the country at the forthcoming FINA World Swimming Championship that will take place in Rome, Italy.
The Tanzania Swimming Association (TSA) selected 12 swimmers who are currently gearing up for the two-week tournament scheduled to tee off on July 21 and run through August 2.
TSA acting secretary general Ramadhani Namkoveka named the Indian based firms as Export Trading Company Limited and Messrs Mahindra&Mahindra.
Namkoveko conveyed association's thanks to the sponsors and called upon other local institutions to emulate them.
"Your support has come at the right time we promise to send a strong team to the games and hopefully they will come out with accolades. We highly appreciate your assistance," he said.
The TSA official said their joint support for the swimmers was an expression of their conviction to help promote swimming.
Magdalena Moshi and Khalid Rushaka who participated in the last year's Beijing Olympics will be among the 12 athletes.
According to him, if Tanzania fails to send its contingent to Rome, the swimming governing body, FINA, would fine them.
The championship would serve to shape up the swimmers ahead of the next year's Commonwealth Games in India and 2012 Olympics Games in London.
