Selebi-Phikwe — Team management of Nico United has been rapped by coach Luke Masomere for 'lack of ambition' as the club hovers just above relegation to a lower category.
Masomere said that there are officials who want to see the team lose rank and influence players to misbehave. "Nico cannot win any silverware with the current mentality of the administration unless the management changes its mindset," Masomere said, after watching his side dismiss Township Rollers 2-1 in a league match on Saturday.
The coach said that when he started coaching the Selebi-Phikwe side, there was 'a lot of politics' which led to players losing focus. He said the Nico management should not be content with just seeing the club in the Premier League, but to be able to strive for honours.
The former Gaborone United coach said the win over Rollers had eased pressure on the club, which is now four points clear of nearest rivals, 14th placed Mogoditshane Fighters.
Masomere said if the team survives relegation, it will beef up for the 2009/2010 season and address their shortcomings. He is happy with the form of the league's leading goal scorer, Master Masitara who might be lost to local football next season. Reports link him to a move to South Africa, Mozambique and a possible return to Zimbabwe.
Masitara took his season's tally to 27 after netting a brace against Rollers over the weekend. However, Majombolo finished a man less after Odumetse Rakoma received a red card.
