Kenya: UK Bisley Shooting Team Lands in London, Gets Down to Business

Nairobi — The Kenya full-bore shooting team arrived in London on Wednesday morning for the 2009 United Kingdom Bisley.

Although they travelled in separate flights, the tour team were only a few minutes apart. Armed Forces shooters flew direct to London while the Kenya Police team mates connected a flight from Zurich, Switzerland.

Edward Legei, the team captain, said all was well and the shooters were looking forward to a good outing. After clearing their weapons, which took slightly over an hour at the busy Heathrow Airport, the shooters were driven to Surrey, just outside London.

It was hot when the team landed but they were quick to settle down at the shooting range. "We have just been busy meeting old friends and showing the new shooters around," Legei said.

The first exercise would be to 'zero' the weapons and, where possible, re-barrel some of them before the friendly competitions start.

"We will use these shoots to get used to the conditions," said Legei. "It is always good to get down to business and test the new environment, ammunition and weapons."

Five of the new shooters were impressed by the range and were eager to get down to business. Kenya is always invited to four of the invitational shoots.

The country has been participating in the UK Bisley since pre-Independence days. The target to beat is 43 medals, which Kenya won in 2006.
