Uganda: The Space Brings Abyssinia Touch

column

Kampala — Gone are the days when Kololo was strictly a residential area. Today, people can visit Kololo, a Kampala suburb, for lunch or a night -out thanks to attractive new hangouts such as The Space Enjera-Gezana.

The Place boasts of a bar, restaurant, gardens, coffee shop and pastry sections. It opens daily from 7am until late.

Located on Acacia Avenue opposite East Africa Radio, the Place offers Abyssinian menu such as the Abyssinia Buffet Night, which takes place on Thursdays and Saturdays. The buffet is served with free Abyssinian coffee.

According to the Director, Ms Tsega Tewelde, Ugandan cuisines, Italian and Indian dishes are served. Local dishes are served for lunch every day at Shs8,000 whilst Italian and Indian dishes are prepared on order from customers.

"Our Abyssinian dishes are traditionally served with Enjera (sugar-free home-baked African bread)," he says.

You also get Sheesha, which is an Abyssinian way of smoking, and "We have spices like apple, orange, passion and chocolate, which can be smoked from VIP rooms with an African setting or in the garden, at prices ranging from Shs8,000 to Shs10,000."

Apart from being the Abyssinian dinner, Thursday is also ladies night at Casablanca pub, which was launched recently. Most of the walls have different paintings of Abyssinian origin mixed with our local Ugandan culture.
