Eritrea: Various Development Projects Implemented in Southern Red Sea Region

Assab — As part of the endeavors being exerted to expand reliable and equitable social services in different parts of the country, various development projects worth over 21 million Nakfa were implemented in the Southern Red Sea region over the past 6 months.

A report presented at an assessment meeting indicated that a number of infrastructure facilities have been put in place through the coordinated efforts of the people and the Government and that the people have already become beneficiaries of different social services. Accordingly, 4 underground ponds with a capacity of holding 900 cubic meters of water has been constructed at cost of over 6.3 million Nakfa in a bid to provide potable water supply to the inhabitants Halalika, Genakibo, Sirero and Araeno in South Denkalia sub-zone.

Likewise, a potable water supply project is under implementation in Afambo at an expenditure of 2.4 million Nakfa and is expected to be finalized next September.

The director general of infrastructure development and social service in the region, Mr. Andemichael Solomon, stated that 2 water distribution stations have been constructed in each villages of Ti'o and Edie, while another water distribution stations are being constructed in Amado and Asgob respectively. He further explained that 5 wells in Araeta sub-zone have been repaired and that 3 underground ponds are under construction in Dembaisima at a cost of 4 million Nakfa. The installation of solar energy-generated water pumper devices has also been finalized, Mr. Andemichael added.
