Uganda: Adult Trainers in Jinja Get Bicycles

Kampala — THIRTY functional adult literacy instructors in Jinja municipality received a bicycle each to mobilise people to attend literacy programmes.

The instructors had just completed of a four-month course. At the handover ceremony on Tuesday, the Jinja town clerk, David Bashakara, urged the trainers to use the bicycles to promote other government programmes. The programme coordinator, Geoffrey Muzusa, said the bicycles worth sh4.5m were bought by the Ministry of Social Development.

He disclosed that Illiteracy in Jinja municipality stood at 40%. Alice Ssenabulya, an instructor from Amber Court division, men were shying away from lessons because they were ashamed of sitting in the same class with their wives.
