Kampala — THE Police on Wednesday deployed at Seroma Christian High School in Nakisunga sub-county, Mukono district to quell a voilent students' strike.

The Police arrived at the school at 4:00am and fired several bullets in the air to bring the situation to order.

The officer in-charge of Nakisunga Police post, Nasibu Nditta, said the strike started at midnight after information leaked to the students that the headteacher, Daniel Magumba, was going to be sacked and replaced by his deputy, Godfrey Gumisiriza.

Nditta said the students were against Magumba's dismissal.

The angry students attacked Gumisiriza's office and destroyed all the property, including computers.

School officials were forced to drive the school vehicles out of the campus after students threatened to set them ablaze. By midday, the vehicles were still parked outside the school compound.

The students who were supposed to be attending lessons after calm returned, loitered in the compound as the administration, the district security and education officials held an emergency meeting.

Journalists were not allowed into the school and efforts to talk to the school director, Robert Sekidde, were futile as he kept on rejecting calls on his mobile phone.

The Police officers were still monitoring the situation from outside the school by press time.
