Uganda: Ex-Minister New DR Congo Envoy

Kampala — KINSHASA has posted former foreign affairs minister Jean Charles Okoto as its ambassador to Kampala.

Okoto, who arrived a week ago, is yet to present his credentials to President Yoweri Museveni. He takes over the embassy that has operated for over 20 years without an ambassador.

Okoto on Tuesday met Congolese living in Uganda at a function to commemorate the 49th independence anniversary of his country at the Commonwealth Resort Munyonyo in Kampala.

Flanked by the embassy First Counsel, Yav Tshikomb Juvenal, Okoto called for unity among the Congolese and cautioned embassy staff against sectarianism.

He said the two neighbouring countries were enjoying a warm relationship and urged its people to work together.

Uganda's envoy to the DR Congo, Maj. James Kinobe, also reported to Kinshasa last week.
