Uganda: Magara Appeals Jail Sentence

2 July 2009

Kampala — SPECIAL Police constable Ramadhan Magara has filed a notice at the Court of Appeal against his conviction and a 14-year jail term.

Through his lawyers, MacDosman Kabega, Magara on Tuesday asked the court to avail him the record of proceedings to enable him formulate the grounds of appeal.

Justice John Wilson Kwesiga of the High Court on June 24 sentenced Magara, 55, for killing Col. Kizza Besigye's supporter at Bulange Mengo in 2006.

The court, however, ruled that Magara did not have a pre-meditated intention to kill his victims.
